i have a mustang just waiting to be stripped, i want to put the rear from the mustang into my maverick, would it be too wide? i have the pony wheels which look to have a deep backspace, but i'm not 100% sure. how much wider is the mustang rear than the maverick. my mustang is an 88 with a 5.0. also, if i brought both rears to a machine shop they should be able to switch the mounts for my leaf springs from the 8 to the 8.8, or atleast put new ones on the 8.8

the 8.8 is one inch wider per side than the stock rear. you can buy a new set of spring mounts for $20 with the 8.8 rear the pony's will fit on your car on the rear but the front if you have the 4lug front the bolt pattern is wrong4.5 vs4.25

you will need to either change the flange on the pinion to a yoke or put driveshaft flange on the mav drive shaft and probly have to shorten it. you can get a yoke off a early 80s f150 or bronco that will work on the 8.8 mustang

We have an 8.8 in Tammy's and I have the 79-93 mustang Ford Racing Alum drive shaft in it. We do have a T-5 but I'm pretty sure it will fit the auto. the length of the shaft is 45.5

The pinion flange will work as is. Nothing to change there.

The Stang driveshaft is close to being the correct length, you can figure that out after the rearend swap. I'm running a stock length 98-04 Mustang driveshaft on my Comet (45.5") with the C-4 and 9" rear with a long 1330 yoke.

Is there a write up on the fox 8.8 in a mav/comet? I see bradleyGt has done it... anymore info? I guess the mustang one is better than the explorer on since the center section is centered on the stang.. the explorers though are 31 spline right.. noting you can't swap over later..

It's a bit harder to go 31 spline in a Stang 8.8 due to the smaller bearings on the ends of the axle housing. That does make it a good time to change the ends to a 9" style and get rid of the C-clips though.

it wont just bolt in. the fox 8.8 uses a 4 link suspension. you have to cut off the controle arm mounts and weld on leafspring pads. i belive that the fox diff is wider than a mavericks diff, so you will need a deeper offset wheel to fit into the wheel well.
