seems like ive seen this before. since ive got my waterpump fixed and the car is running like a champ again, im thinking that the car is worthy of some cosmetic improvements.
i would say it needs a paint job. we were going to paint the high spot of the hood flat black, but now im thinking... why not addeth a hood scoop before doing so? i was thinking about getting that generic ford hoodscoop that you saw on so many 68-70 mustangs and torinos. but if memory serves me correctly.. someone says that it cannot be made functional, unless you located it at the very front of the hood. sounds dumb to me, and i know that would look even dumber. i know ive seen these scoops on mavericks, and they look good. but i cant honestly say i know if they are functional or not. i wouldnt bother adding it, if it isnt functional. anyone got any thoughts on the subject? thanks rr |

just my .02, but I think the grabber hood looks pretty sharp. I have never been a fan of cutting any body parts for the reason of adding something cosmetic. You take the chance of looking cheesy. What are you looking for, some kind of Ram air? If you are creative enough, you can make anything work. Has anyone ever hollowed out the scoops on the grabber hood here and turned them into functional ram-air?I always thought that would be cool.

I personally like the Mustang/Torino scoop on a stock hood over the Grabber hood. I used to have a Grabber hood on this car but took it off in favor of this set up. I put one of these on my Sprint when it was only 6 months old and have been running them this way ever since. IT is functional too. The only thing hard to do is if you want to make the turn signals functional. My Sprint has cut outs for the stock turn signal housing whereas this scoop does not. I made my own housings and run the wires through the main opening.

hey mavaholic,
it looks beautiful. of course mine will be flatblack, and i could care less about hooking up the turn signal indicators. i might go a step further and add hood lock pins. i used to have a 69 torino cobra jet, and was in love with the whole hood treatment. is there anyway you can provide an underhood pic of your "ram air" setup? im assuming that if it is functional, you had to borrow/create some special kind of air cleaner to make it functional. as for the grabber hood.... i like them as well, but dont happen to have a grabber hood. i could probably install the hood scoop for less than i could get a grabber hood. also, has anyone ever made the grabber hood a functional "ram air" setup? keeping options open. i could go either way rr |

The Ford hood scoop has turn signal indicators in the back of the scoop. I havent installed them yet in this one but you can see the cut outs for them. The housing for the lights hang below the surface of the hood so you have to cut your hood out for them. On my blue 77 the housings were stripped out so I just made my oun housings and ran the wire up thru the large opening. ON my Sprint (see next picture) I cut out for the stock light housings. Its a pain because you have to cut into the under hood bracing for this to work. Most of the aftermarket look alike scoops dont come with the cutouts for the lights.
