ok so my rear bumper is straight might have a bit of surface rust. my front will have to be straightened out, i was wondering if i just sand them down in a constant pattern could they look like decent brushed metal?. without being re dipped? kinda like this http://www.pro-touring.com/showthread.php?67989-Brushed-Bumper
The bumper I got from the junkyard was painted body color. This is what it looked like under the paint.
oh wow not what i was expecting... well my car is getting back from paint in a couple weeks, its being painted charcoal grey with black racing stripes, what do you think i should do paint them black? idk cause i don't wand to spend a bunch of money, how much would re chroming and straightening them cost?
Powdercoating is always an option too. I plan on straightening mine, welding the mounting bolts on and shaving the heads, then having them powdercoated.
There is a refinish technique that can be performed to achieve a similar brushed appearance. You can strip the bumpers, prime and paint them silver, utilize a scotch brite pad to lightly scuff the surface in one continuous pattern, and then apply clear coat over the finished product. I saw Chip Foose use this method on silver hood stripes on an episode of Overhaulin. I thought the finished appearance looked pretty good and was considering to try it on some bumpers myself.
thanks for the info. has anyone tried chrome powdercoating on anything? ive heard of it but would like to see it done first
