    Hey guys,

I'm trying to fit the maximum size radiator in my '70 Maverick. I need the late
model flow (cross - flow??). The engine is a 347 c.i. and will be used for
    drag-strip only.

I was trying to use one that came out of my old '90 Mustang but it's just too big.

Looks like the maxium size radiator I can use is 30-1/2" X 15-1/2" tall. The
width is measuremed from just above the radiator support and the height is
measured from the support up to the hood 'shelf' (lip at fender).

I only have 1-1/4" available between the support and the balancer so I can't
put in between the two. I can't put a taller one in front of the support
because the outlet would be blocked.

Can you guys tell me what size radiator you have (I've searched with little
luck). Is it aftermarket? Does it cool good enough?

Any pictures and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rick

I have a Griffin aluminum 26x19 radiator (core size, tanks on side juuust fit between the frame rails). The lower hose is high enough it clears the crossmember and angles up and toward the motor. Only cost 190 or so from Summit. No tranny cooler, but I have a large Hayden external tranny cooler. Hmm, 1 1/4 isn't much space... I'll have to go measure but I think it's 2" thick, so it doesn't sound like it would work for you. I guess you have probably already looked into something like this and that's why you're asking the question anyway huh. :slap:

    Hey Matt,

Thanks for the reply. Is your radiator sitting behind the support? (I don't even have pics of the radiator in it's original location). Also, I assumed the reason for the tight clearance was due to '70's only coming with 6 cyls.

    Got any pics?

    Thanks,

    Rick

I don't have it mounted yet, but yes, it does sit behind the core support. I still have to make the brackets (and finish the car :D). I have plenty of room between the core support and the balancer on my 77, maybe there is a difference. If I don't have any pics I will take a couple new ones of it sitting in place. Won't the motor sit too far forward if the frame mounts are reversed?

I could not find any posts on it either, but I just went out and took a few pics of mine. They definitely would move the motor forward if they were turned around (swapped left/right). The front of the mount is almost flush with the frame it is bolted to, but the back of the mount sits behind the frame. Hard to take pics with the motor in the car, but here's a couple. I'd estimate it might move the motor forward at least an inch, maybe two.

Lots of them around Indiana.....would recognize it anywhere. Went to a car show yesterday. The cottonwood was so bad that it looked like it was snowing!!!

Well, I got around to taking pics of my delima regarding radiator fitment.

The following pic is the view looking at the passenger side motor mount from the front of the car.
