I've been keeping an eye on this thread for some time now. Over the winter
I decided to build a new engine(347). Knowing i needed bigger headers,
I checked far and wide. The hooker 6208 seemed to be the best choice for
small exhaust port head, but I was looking for a header with a 3 inch pattern
for my AFR 205 heads. Also I don't like how most of our small block headers
crimp down at the exhaust port, like the hooker 1-3/4. 1st I ordered a set
of custom headers from Accufab for a mustang, with intentions i may have
to move a few tubes around, NO LUCK!, pass. header was okay,3 tubes on
driver's side hit the firewall or steering, but both headers would not fit in at the same time. The tubes came too far out before they swept down, another
    $550 wasted. Round #2 ,I ordered a set from Crites, 1-3/4 tubes into 3-1/2
collector ,and they build them with the 3 inch pattern flange. The only
problems I see so far, the front 4 tubes drop down below my oil pan,the center rib of the shock towers need modification(supplied by Crites),and a oil filter relocator is needed. I will be trying them shortly and will post pics.
If they don't work I will resort to my final option, custom headers by Kooks
    For only $1,750. ouch!!

Thanks for all your help. hopefully pics shortly.

Holy Schmoly, Ray! You sure do put your pocketbook where your experimentation lays. I appreciate your willingness to do trial and error.

Tubular offers large tube headers for 289-302 that can be had with 3" port pattern.
    Forgot the part number.
They are for 65-66 Stangs, you might call and see if they would fit a Maverick.
With all the Mav headers they have, they might know if these will fit.
They are 8 individual tubes if memory serves.

how big are the tubes, dave?

We need some 1 7/8's that can fit a AFR 205/225 or a Victor Jr, Brodix, etc...
    (exhale...)

Is it just a 90 degree adapter that is needed, or does the filter need to be remotely mounted?

I believe they are 1.875" (1 7/8") tubes, not sure, don't have the book in front of me.
