And you have to understand guys, I'm only 20 years old, I can't afford a Cobra and Fairlane like my dad, I go to school, I bust my working so I can have a decent car, and I'm soon going into the Marines, I'm not a spoiled brat, my dad taut me how to work for my things, nothing handed to me
I Figured a 10 inch rim would Rip the Suspension out of these Cars ... the widest ive ventured into is a 8 inch rim..... I alaways hear the front ends on these were designed specifically for the 4 and 5 inch stock Rims...ive seen posts with Cracked shock towers along with Broken Strut Rods Im Nervous Running a 8 inch!
A wider wheel will crack shock towers? Damn good thing I have been saving up to get rid of the shock towers and Fab up a rack and pinion
Ive seen Stock Rims and Tires crack shock towers and snap Strut rods in half... I like the suspension under these cars I just wish they were built a litte better. This is why so many people are ripping out the front ends and moding in Aftermarket kits. Mustangs/Mavericks/Granadas/ Ect all have these front ends.
Very, Very nice car! I love the stance and how simple the car looks, really clean. As for the early Camaro tail lights, I really like the look. How hard where they to put in and how much metal did you have to cut to make them fit that well? If you are only 20 and have done this on your own...............I am impressed.
The wider wheel isn't what cracks the shock towers, it's the loading. If you drive like I do, you might crack the towers. 6 cyl cars that have V8 conversions and a lot of power without the belly bar and cars run without shock tower braces are more prone to cracking. A 10" tire and wheel combo that is properly aligned and driven normally isn't any more likely to hurt anything than a 6". The broken strut rods are usually ill maintained or using urethane bushings. Never use a urethane or any other bushing that has a harder durometer rating than the original or OEM replacement bushings on the strut rods. Moog is highly recommended.:Handshake Nice job on the lights and the wheels/susp. You did quite a job stuffing those in there and rolling the fenders. I love the lights too. Don't listen to the naysayers. I was considering using a Firebird tail light panel at one point. It's your car, your preference. Should you join the Marines, please accept my thanks in advance for your service.
That's one MEAN car and some awesome pics. If you just put in some text they'd look like promo pieces. Thanks a ton for sharing!!! (Ps- those Camaro lights are niiice. I'm putting on some impala ones myself next month.)
