18s on Stock 1970

Found some 18 inch motegi 5 star rims with the universal 4 lug 4x114.3 bolt pattern. Running 215/35R18, will these fit on my stock 1970?

 

This is how it looks now with my stock 14s on 205/70R14 tires.

Ive seen other members here with 19 and 20 inch rims on there cars but I dont think they "fit" really I know a few guys have some larger wheels on there cars and they look pretty good but they have lowered the car a hair and done front end mods

you better have good shocks or theyll rub hard in the back. my comet gt has bad rear shocks and 15's rub on one side when I get on it

 

it depends on the back spacing of the wheel and how wide it is. a 215 tire is not very wide and should fit ok.

I just got this car a month or so ago, it looks real nice from about 10 ft, but it shows it's age up close. I plan on reworking the suspension eventually. The only reason I'm considering it is because my right front tire needs to be replaced. And a new radial t/a runs about $115, and this set of 4 rims and tires are $300 on craigslist. And eventually I want larger rims, not sure if 18s are too big though.

I don't really know how the whole rim/tire equation works and exactly (in inches) how much bigger/wider my current wheels are compared. (205/70r14 vs 215/35r18)

 

I have no idea the back spacing.

 

if you plan to rework the suspension Im guessing to atleast a 5 lug setup I would save the money replace the one tire or buy a set 4 new ones.
around here you can easily get 4 NEW tires out the door for $200
I got falken (sp?) tires on my car for that much out the door but then again Im just a lil journey from you so the deals here may not be had there

I bet you could wax your car really good or buff it maybe get a new clear coat on it and it would shine for years to come. I like that color with the blackwall tires

 

I think you will find that wheel way to big.

I wouldn't put much faith in a set of $300 wheels/tires from Craig's list.

By rework suspension, I mean replace stock worn parts for new stock parts. Odds are a 5 lug conversion and disk brake conversion are out of my budget for a long time to come.

 

Nice looking wheels.. But 18" might be a little big. Post pics if you do it.

 

It'll look funny with 4 wheel drum breaks, with modern wheels.

 

Even if I clean the drums and painted everything in there black?

 

the larger the wheel/tire (combined) the less effective the braking. NOT something i would want on a drum brake car.

Those rubber band tires would ride like crap. Just my opinion.
