Thanks guys, I need to find the 72 valance and grill for mine since it already has the 72 bumpers. Any suggestions?
Here is a pic of my current grill setup as I bought it. Again, it's a 77 but someone did the bumper retrofit which I love because my original 72 had the same look. I believe the 70-72 front and rear bumpers are the same and then they changed in 73, but please confirm that if you can. This grill now does not have the blinker lights in it and I don't know what year that was, although I think it was 73 which might make sense if the valance is also a 73. As you can see from the two pics, I have since purchased the proper grill emblem center piece because someone made a custom one at some point. I believe these grills are interchangeable between all years but if I'm wrong there let me know. I will also be removing the black paint from the headlight bezel trim and making them chrome again, as well as putting the chrome trim back on the hood edge. As you can tell the hood is a 77. I'm assuming the 72 grill will have the blinker light assembles built in and all I have to do is move the wiring, but I need to know that as well. I will also be replacing the bumpers with chrome and my goal is to make this car look like a 72 as much as possible. I will still be searching for an original Grabber but for now this car is what it is and I want to have some fun converting it into a 72 style. I also purchased the quarter panel emblems and will be putting those back on as well. Am I correct in assuming that all of these accessories are compatible across all 70-77 Mavericks since the quarter panels are the same? Thanks again for all your help and knowledge guys.
One more question on bumpers, did the bumper mount system change with the jump to the larger bumpers in 73-77? I plan to replace the bumpers in a swap deal (trade in these for new), so I want to be sure they will fit. Here is the rear bumper now, and you can see that had to modify the corner piece a little to make it fit. Eventually I will be buying the rear spoiler kit which will include this piece but I hope someone can tell me if it will all fit right. Again, assuming the quarters and trunk didn't change, I would think they would, but you will also notice he blended the rear valance into the quarter as well. Nice transition but not correct, but it is what it is for now until I decide to repaint the car and make these changes. Thanks again.
So you are the one who bought Wayne’s car! My buddy and I have helped Wayne out several times over the years working on his car. Several of the things on that car came from us too.
You are correct, he had the 73 front valance on his car and he used the 70-72 medallion grill. If you need a sport lamp/turn signal grill I should have an extra one. Send me a Pm and I’ll send you my phone number, I can help you out with most of the questions you asked about.
Also DO NOT but the aftermarket spoiler kits. They are complete crap and a waste of money. Only good one is maverick man carbon. But those can be pricy.
Coming your way William, and yes, this was Wayne's car! Great guy, bought it from him at the Turkey Run in Daytona in November.
Thank TL, likewise, love that color. I found cool site below that has all of the official car colors by make, model and year. Here is the chart for the 1972 lineup for Ford. I think this color I have is closest to the coral but I've seen the coral on a 1972 Torino and it's even brighter. I will likely paint this one Grabber blue once I fix the things he's customized and find the rear spoiler. If anyone knows of one for sale anywhere please let me know.
