I just removed the back glass from my 72 and noticed the sealant.it looked a lot like foam tape 3/8 in. wide. also if you were to use sealer how would you install the glass if you used string without making a mess.

I just got a new front windshield in the '72 and they seald the s**t out of the front and the back. The first place I had do the windshield didn't seal the front and it leaked at the top. Luckily it got cracked by a stone in the road so my insurance paid for a new one. I took it to a glass place that installed a brand new windshield, gasket and I know they sealed it. Also, one thing you might want to do is call the local "muscle car dealer" if you have one and ask who they use to do their glass repairs and installs. Believe me you want this done right! By the way, what do those little metal pieces do on those studs at the bottom of the glass?

Are you talking about the studs that hold the trim clips?

They are spacers. If you don't use them, the top of the windshield will sit too low and leak like a river.
