Hello to all, I have a 1972 V-8, factory A/C, Automatic Sprint Maverick that I have had for years. I have just now started on the Restoration. I've been ordering parts and have started with the hardest one's to buy. As I go thru this, I will need all the help that you guys can give. I'm a 69/70 Mustang guy and have always had one and the Mustang knowledge spills over into the Maverick I guess. Also, a few years ago, I was able to find a 1972 4 door Maverick that was Medium Blue Metallic with the Blue Interior. It is a V-8, auto, A/C car that I will be using as a donor. The more that I search for parts, the more that I appreciate the Donor car. My plan is to restore it to exact on all of the outside and all of the inside. Motor wise, I'll just get a Crate motor with a little thump. Nothing radical. My goal is when you open the hood, you will see a period correct looking engine. Valve covers and all. If intake is aluminum, it'll be painted blue. Has anyone used 289 HP Exhaust Manifolds? How do they work or do they interfere with anything? Many thanks, Tim
On a side note...In the 60-65 Falcon world, the original HP exhaust manifolds fit between the shock towers. The reproduction GT manifolds will not fit between the shock towers.
I would have thought that they would have worked. The top half of them is probably the same, but the exit of the exhaust is obviously different. I'm going with the advise and saving the money even trying. Thanks, Tim
Good luck with the restoration. I bought my Sprint new and did a complete restoration/restomod back in 2001/2002. I'm not sure how stock you want to keep it, but in my opinion they look much better with a few improvements. I upgraded my interior to Maverick buckets but kept the Sprint materials and patterns. I also used the brightest white I could find instead of wimbledon white. Wimbledon white looks ok until you get next to a real white car. Here is a link to a YouTube video of mine.
Thanks Dennis, I'll need all the help that I can get. Very good looking car. I'm very familuar with Live Oak, Fl. I go diving in the Suwannee River down in Mayo. Haven't been in a while but I'll be coming thru there in about 2weeks as I am selling a 1969 Mustang at Kissimmee Mecum on January the 18th. Coming down on the 7th.
Just keep in mind that the Ford Maverick is not an investment. It has an attractive body style but was designed for all intents & purposes to be an economy car. Stock is boring. These cars are best when resto-modded (or for those with a big budget, given the "pro-touring" treatment). I always roll my eyes when a new member with a newley acquired Maverick/Comet project comes along and says they want to "keep it all original". That's something you do with a Shelby Mustang, not a Maverick...
" .. has an attractive body style but was designed for all intents & purposes to be an economy car. Stock is boring. " . 250 Six, 3 OTT, Bench Seat, AM Radio ... . . . 250 Six w/Vortech, Tremec , Bench Seat, Am Radio ... . . . . . have fun . attractive body style ?
