Yeah I'm going to build the V8 outside of the car after I get one and run the I6 until it is complete. I'll build the V8 just how I want it and then the car will be ready to rock! Problem is, Maverick/Comet parts cars around here are scarce. I've been looking for cars that have 302's or 289's to use them as a donor instead.
THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED!!! It'll have a 302 AND the necessary pieces to put in the 302! which aren't cheap to buy from somebody! http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/1711700349.html
What Matt said, you will have all the needed parts plus you could probably sell of the extra stuff and pay for it. I know if I were in the market for buying another parts car it would be in my driveway
if nothing else. your gonna need those pieces that hold in the v8. and buying those and having them shipped can add up to what he's asking for the whole car...if i needed a v8 donor i'd snatch that up asap for only $300. you could easily make back $300 in parts...the rearend alone is worth 150-200!
Here's a picture of it at my high school's annual car show! I washed and waxed it the night before and it turned out pretty good! The seats are much more comfortable than the bench, and I sure missed driving it (not the paying for gas part though). I'll post up more pictures of the buckets and how they are mounted some other day. Details of the mounting upon request.
Well a few months and a few paychecks later, I am realizing that swapping to a V8 is unrealistic. Right now the car needs suspension work before I can do anything else to it. I barely make enough money at the golf course to pay for my gas, leaving very little for car additions after other expenses pop up. Fortunately, for helping roof our house, payment was in the form of a new kenwood bluetooth equipped deck, alpine speakers, MTX amp, and Rockford Fosgate dual sub. This is pretty nice since I didn't have a sound system to speak of beforehand, as my stock fm radio doesn't work. Right now my plan is to fix was needs to be immediately fixed, and then go for building the 250 after that. The way I see it, I already have the 250, and they are only going to get rarer in the future. I'll have the cool factor of the inline 6 as opposed to people seeing another V8. After the suspension, I'll go after getting a mustangs unlimited dual header and a Holley 2300 dual carb. The interior needs work too, a new headliner and carpet being the biggest things. I want to make some custom door panels and a custom console that will hold my stereo, since the stock radio is in an inconvenient place. I do have a question though about the exterior color and look scheme. Right now I'm playing around with two main ideas, but the two could be hybridized. 1. Daytona Blue, black stripes, black mach 1 spoiler, possibly a hood scoop, black grille, black cragar V5 rims, basically no chrome on the car. Might even do a black bumper. 2. Dark midnight blue, chrome rims, clean exterior look (no aftermarket add ons), maybe white stripes Thoughts on look schemes?
Well I've basically decided on what I'm doing for an exterior scheme. I've got some new wheels from US Wheel sitting in the garage and I'm going to be mounting some bfg radial T/A's to them soon. Right now the car is waiting for my suspension parts to get here. About $500 in parts need to be/should be replaced up front. Once that is done then the new wheels/tires can be mounted. The wheels/tires will totally change the look of the car, I'll finally get a more muscle car look by ditching the stock steels and mav hubcaps. As for the color I am going to go with a very dark blue and then white stripes of some sort. Would normal racing stripes like those found on a Shelby Cobra look bad on the Mav? I mean the hood's geometry seems to lend more to a shaped stripe on the hood only as opposed to two parallel lines from front to back. Thoughts?
Figured it's about time for an update with PICTURES! New stuff includes wheels from US Wheel, BFG Traction T/A's (les schwab couldn't get radial T/A's), new suspension bits including control arms, shocks, tie rod ends, etc., a Thrush glasspack muffler, chrome exhaust tip, and soon there will be a disc brake conversion and new spring perches. Cosmetically I plan on a new headliner being next, as well as installing my stereo. I'll be posting a video on youtube of the exhaust and how it sounds with the glasspack. Personally, I think it rocks. I'll post the link here when it is done.
Thanks! She's much rougher than she looks from that distance. The bumpers are rusty (the rear worse than the front), the trim is coming off the rear window, my headliner is torn from side to side in two places, the trunk is in sad shape, there is cancer in the passenger rear quarter panel and in the trunk. The paint is old, but after a good washing and waxing it looks descent. I love it to death though, such a fun car. It was amazing what just putting new wheels and tires on did for the look. Went from a dumpy old American car to a sporty work in progress.
