I currently have a six cylinder 1975 Maverick. I'd like to put in a new engine for more horsepower if possible. It has a 200 in it and automatic transmission. What would I need to put a new engine in it and what engine would you reccommend? I am on a budget so nothing crazy. Also where can I look online for some aftermarket parts for my car?

    Welcome from central VA!

I also recommend a 5.0. Getting them out of a wrecked Ford Explorer is usually pretty inexpensive.

So I found aa 5.0 in a ninety three mustang that supposedly runs well, but the car is trashed. What do you think? They're asking $850

For whole car?? Far too much for what's likely a beat engine...

It isn't going to fit unless you change oil pan, all the front accessories(it is possible to retain serpentine belt system), plus you'll need a bellhousing, torque converter and correct balance flexplate for your orig trans(that will likely puke due to added power)... This just scratches surface, also need a intake manifold, carb, V8 radiator, exhaust system, motor mounts, throttle linkage etc, etc, etc...

It is possible to keep the EFI, but you better be good at wiring or at least have a buddy who is... Still would need a oil pan and headers as Stang units won't fit into Mav engine bay...

Just find a low mileage explorer motor. Needs to be 96-97 though.

But will still need all the items I listed, without a early engine or donor car for the V8 pieces it isn't a simple swap... Plus the Sploder EFI would be a double nightmare to setup...

You are exactly right, you had already posted most of what was needed so I really didn't see a point in repeating it all. You will need everything Krazy listed for sure. The explorer is a nice cheap motor to go with.
