Great work Don! Glad u decided to brace the other end of that engine. Better safe than sorry. Simple solution to reiieving the stress/weight in one place. I never thought abt it till I watched Powernation last weekend. After all that great work "attention to detail", I hate to see you w/ tears in ur eyes. Actually, the guy drop that 300 engine leaving the machine and broke a piece at the rear of the block - which had to be welded back together...
Thanks Everett. While I was outside cutting the lumber I was having fears of hearing a crash in the garage. It was getting pretty bouncy on the stand.
Part 2: Clearing out MOST of the engine bay to strip and repaint. It seems that every year Im bleeding my brakes, not this year. I refuse to mess them again, so I have to work around that stuff. Also have to work around steering box. Plan on swapping out the PS cylinder with one from the 76 donor. Also going to replace the upper control arm bushings and spring perch bushings. While that's apart I will cut a half coil or so out of the springs to drop the front end a bit. Gonna try to tackle repairing the rust in the left front fender. Want to get the C4 rebuilt and then put it all back together in time for the first Mini Meet in June. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed! Here is what I accomplished today. Original color At least I have a place to keep my body panels.
Glad to have someone to share my pain with! I've got until July 13th to get mine done for the Atlantic Nationals. You're really making good progress though, Don. The rust repair will suck, but it'll be nice when it's done and you never have to go back!! Keep up the progress, that only motivates me to get something done on mine...
June is coming like a freight train! I need to be done for the Mini Meet in Dearborn, week after that is Carlisle, week after that is a Mini Meet Im hosting here. I hope I make it in time. Kinda stressed about it, but one thing leads to another and now Im in deep!
Get Busy!!! Maybe a little less on the landsharks and gab’in on FB and you have more time to get stuff done!!
I had a few days off during the week and forgot to post my progress. I pulled what was left of the engine Always makes me feel better knowing that Kramer is keeping an eye on me. Here I started stripping the right side. Pulled the front bumper to make it easier to get to the radiator support. Radiator support stripped Pulled the wire harness back out of the way. I realize that one 5/16 bolt in the fuse box will remove it completely but I couldn't bring myself to crawl under the dash. You can tell the cowl is galvanized, that paint couldnt wait to come off there. Started the left side. Removed the trans cooling lines and a few other things. Getting ready to pull the trans. Wasnt looking forward to it. But its all behind me now. Finished the day starting the firewall. Here I was able to get lower in the engine bay cleaned up. This is where I stopped for the day. Still have to remove the clips to the brake lines. I wore out my wire cup. I may pick one up tomorrow and finish the rest.
Thats funny Craig! Its first trip will be to Michigan for the Mini Meet in June and Im sure it will rain and mess up all my hard work. But thats ok because I love to drive my car! Btw, Jacki WANTS it to be a trailer Queen. She doesnt enjoy it as much as I do.
