    255/60r15 on Cragar 15X8 4-1/4" BS

Just FYI for those who wonder what will fit...

I have approx 1/2" clearance from leaf spring to raised letters.

26" ground to fender (4-leaf heavy duty springs, but should be within 1/4-1/2" of stock).

3/8" clearance between the fat smooth part of the outside of the tire and the inner fender.

3/4" clearance between the transition of the thread (the 90 degree edge) to the inner fender.

I bet I could squeeze 275s in there since 10mm equals approx 3/8, added to both sides, I think they would fit in there, but I am not going to try it.

This is the stock 74 rear with drum brakes. The tires are BFG T/As, $212 mounted and balanced with lifetime balance. They also balanced them with adhesive weights inside the rim, rather than pounding them into the edge of the rim. Looks better, hope they hold on for the ride :drive:

I bet this would look really good dropped down another inch... :D

    Man that looks perfect!
Any taller, shorter, or wider just looks funny on the back of our short wheelbases IMO.
I have wanted to do this combo for years, but have continually stuck with my stock rims and 245/60s. Always seem to have something else to spend rim money on...
4.25" and 255/60 is great. This is the first time I have seen it though. You have confirmed my theory to me after seeing the pics.
My Sprint sags in the back, so I was going to use shorter tires, but I might just have to get new springs now...

That is not going to work with my slapper bars though.
I don't intend to put them on the Sprint, but the 75 needs to keep them. I guess some cutting and welding is in order to make them work.

    Anyway, thanks!
    Looks awesome.

That looks great. I myself wouln't drop another inch, but if you do...Consider having the inner fender lips rolled (just to be on the safe side)

I probably will not drop it, but after reading a couple issues of Car Craft (subscriber for about 5 years) I wonder if it wouldn't look nice dropped down like a "G-Machine".

By the way, am I the only one that thinks "G-Machine" sounds dumb? They need to come up with a better name for those kinds of cars.

If you read your Car Craft closely, they usually make fun of ''g'' machines

You are right...it is Popular Hot Rodding that goes for the "G" look. I have always liked Car Craft better, anyway. More along my lines as far as finances go.

Those "G" cars are way too expensive for my tastes...I don't need $25,000 worth of add-ons to make my $600 car go fast, and it seems to turn nice enough to get me back at the end of my 1/8th.

    :slap: :slap: :slap:

Is there a way to fix the Header on a thread?

Of course I meant 4-1/4" back space. I am glad everyone didn't go out and buy a crap load of Cragar's with 1-1/4" backspaced rims.

I would have looked like a total ass...maybe I wrote this thread after a couple of :drink:

EDIT--I could only change the number on the first post, not on the title of the thread. DAMN :hide:

I want to try a slightly different variation though...
    Anyone done a 7" rim with 4" b/s and 255/60?
I want to tuck the tire a little more when it comes to the quarters, and it should gain another 1/4" clearance from the springs.
Might mean the difference between getting slapper bars in or not.
Plus I like the look of a wide tire on a slightly too narrow rim.
The 245/60s I run look great on a 6" rim... so 10mm more on an inch wider rim should be fine, right?

    Ratio

Take a look at my pictures, this is exactly why I posted this thread (not just to brag about new tires :D ).

Or PM me for more precise measurements (ie, I can weight down the rear and measure exactly how much space before I hit the inner fender, etc.).

I put all these numbers on here so others could mess with the BS and tire size, and have a pretty good idea how far which way you could go, one way or another, and still fit, at least on a stock axle and fenders.

These tires just about maxed out what the stock car can handle without any rubbing issues.

Also, we have all found that one car may be a little different than everyone else's, and not all tires and rims are made equal, so there may some variation in those. That is why I was very specific on the details of my setup (except for my MAJOR blunder of the "1-1/4" backspacing" )

Be sure to let us know if your setup works as well...

ok. 4 1/4 with an 8 inch rim. I was going to go with a 8 inch rim with 4in bs. I was just about to buy my rims today.
