While I was looking for an exploded view of my Competition Plus shifter on the Hurst site I noticed listings for the "SROD" and about three different shifters. Now, I wasn't looking for that but I remember seeing it in passing... I am old and sometimes my memory plays tricks on me but it would only take a moment to look.
The thing to remember about Hurst's site is you can look up the part number there and go order it on Summit's website. Otherwise you're looking for a needle in a haystack without the part number on Summit's site. I bought the shifter installation kit for the Toploader I have in the Ranger this way.
Based upon the year it's probably a truck version of the SROD. If the shift turret is all the way to the front , that's what it is. And of course it is all aluminum. It's not the most durable toploader but is still a good unit for everyday street driving. Have run one in a Mustang for over 15 years with no problems. The truck version is a direct bolt in on an early BH with no mods necessary. It also has a lower ratio 1st gear, i.e. 3.25:1. It also has larger main shaft bearings. The Mustang version has a 3.09:1 1st. Also requires either the SROD BH or some mods as the input shaft is longer like the T-5. Also the shift turret is further back on the tailhousing. Still a good choice for everyday driving. The 77-79 3 spd w/od was what they call the toploader 'imposter'. They were cast iron with external linkage like the original toploader. They were replaced by the SROD in 80. 5speeds.com sells rebuild kits for both style tyrans. Gear train from the Mustang version can be swapped into an early toploader case with some mod. Not so for the truck version because of the larger main shaft bearings. Though it may be possible to use the Mustang version bearings instead. Haven't looked at that possibility. RS
