    and how do i know what springs and so forth work with the cam?

    No, the distance from the rocker to the cover roof is more than you'd think. With the 82-85 aluminum stockers, there's a good 1/2-3/4" distance between the rockers and covers. Bolt down the covers as you'd run them (with gaskets), crank it and let it idle for a few seconds, if you hear noise, kill it, remove the covers and look at the baffle under the filler holes. You'll clearly see where they're hitting if they are. As for springs, here's one choice for cams other than those above .515 lift; Crane #44308-1 (springs and retainers, $115 at Summit Racing)

    I have a 1976 Maverick Stallion, and 85 More Mavericks and Comets in Inventory.
    The older engines up to 71 that used leaded gasoline ran cooler,, the unleaded engine blocks can handle more heat before distorting,, the 1 piece rear main seal and the roller cam in the 86 and newer engines is just icing on the cake,,,
