As some of you may remember a few months ago I removed my 200 I6 and replaced it with a 302, I bought the long block from a builder down in Mississippi, well I had some work done on the heads, port polish bigger valves and installed a Comp Nostalgia 271 cam and some other goodies. Well to make a long story short it had a lower end rattle and I have been going back and forth with this guy who built it. I pulled the engine last week and took the crank out and mic'ed it. It had the wrong size rod bearings in it!!! I called the guy and he said even though it was their screw up that thet would'nt warranty it because I changed the cam, boy was I PO'ed. Anyway the good news is while I had it down this time I installed some other things I did'nt have the money for before. Here's my new specs. all the new things have a * after them.

    302 40 over
87 TE heads ported polished 194/160 Manley valves
    TRW Forged flat top pistons
    Edelbrock RPM intake *
Lunati Voodoo camshaft 291 with lifters and push rods *
    gear drive *
    650 Carter AFB
    MSD Ignition *
    MSD Dizzy *
    Aluminum waterpump
Barry Grant mech. fuel pump *
    ARP bolts, studs, ect *
    Fluid dampner *
    TCI 2000-2200 stall converter *
Tri-Y headers Jet Hot coated *

Wish me luck I'm starting her up tomorrow morning 5-04-2005

Man, that's a terrible customer service policy!! AT least you caught it before SERIOUS damage was done. Congrats on the upgrades!! Good Luck!! Preston

sounds like a nice motor, now that you got it fixed. Sucks that they would not fix it though.

a good shop would have made it right. guess that's one shop that won't get any more of your business. maybe they haven't heard of the word of mouth advertising. goes both ways. good and bad.

you know...i had the same problem....
i had a shop do all my engine work grinding crank, bore...yada yada yada.... i put the short block together and bought all the bearings and stuff from the same machinist... he ground the crank to 20 under and gave me 10 under bearings....but since i put the crank in he wouldnt give me the wrong bearings...i didnt even notice the problem until every time i was at 2500 rpms i would hear this loud rattle.... well to make the story short, i plastigaged the crank and found the problem....bought new bearings and everything is fine...

i wont be going back to that guy again thats for sure

I've had that happen, the parts house replaced the crank kit, including, main and rod bearings.

The engine shop was Blaylocks engine service in Durma MS, we have ordered multiple engines from them to raffle off at our car shows over the years; well needless to say never again. Now the good news, I got it fired up this morning and it runs great. I'm not glad I had a problem but it did give me the chance to change my cam out. I went with a Lunati cam 224 duration and 465 lift, for me this is the perfect street cam. It sounds sooo much better than it did before, good lopey idle and that bloop te bloop te bloop when in gear at a stop light ! whats even better it still idles descent with my A/C on.......I know "A hot rod with A/C?" well it gets hot here in Arkansas......also I put a gear drive on it and while I was getting gas a guy told me "I think you need to add some power steering fluid to your car, it's whining". :biglaugh:
