I'd be curious to see when the last cert was done.

Knowing/watching/reading some of the new cert requirements-I doubt that car would recert without a few mods needing to be done. Then there is the inspector-is he in a good mood or bad?

Simplicity-man you need to go look at a sprint car. They have two gauges. Oil psi and water temp. No tach. They don't need it. Some guys don't paint the chassis because it's just for looks. One brake on the front rather than two. Only needs one just on the left side. Rear brake-only one (live axle). Ultimate in simplicity. In all honesty, the altered is MUCH more complicated than a sprinter but those are built that way on purpose. If it ain't needed, it ain't there. They're crazy. I was involved with a team (friend of a friend deal) down at Benton one night-the driver went over the bank on turn 3, endo'd several times and they hauled him off in a meat wagon. Car was demolished. We had it STRIPPED (bare frame) in 35 minutes-two of us. Engine is light-around 400 lbs and it's by far the heaviest part of the car. 2 guys it's a struggle to get it out without a hoist but it came out. Rear end is like 45 lbs (lots of magnesium and titanium).

I'm still wanting to put the dragster together-but it doesn't fit in the garage and the shop that it's at is FULL. Have some engine parts and some other stuff for a good start but just no time/no place/lack of motivation. Maybe one of these days.

But I'll admit-open wheel cars ARE a lot of fun no matter if you're driving in circles or going straight. Just not quite as impressive to see a digger or altered running 5.00 as it is to see a door car going 5.00.
