A wise old man one time told me"THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT" right before his landyacht w/a 429 wipped us all.

i do have a great woman :)bowdown:northerndixie78) she lives by "there's no replacement for displacement" summit racing has some headers that say they are for a 351 in a Maverick has anyone tried these? heck they are only 99 bucks so i might try them anyway

also the wife wants a stick and i want an auto which is better for drag racing? and if i went with the manual which is the easiest swap?

it's funny cause as i was reading this thread my wife and i were talking about putting a c4 or t5 in my maverick, only mine said "i dont care,i dont want to look at it let alone get in it"

use the auto for drag racing, same shift speed and rpm every time.with a stick shift you have to shift at the same rpm and not miss a gear.

i would take a 347 stroker over a STOCK 351 anyday, with the stroker you have a better quality short block.you can get a complete stroker kit for about 700 or so new and balanced.
here is a good article about the stroker,it's for a 331 but for all intents and purposes there the same.

The bellhousings bolt up the same but flex size will dictate the size. A 351w will probably have a 164 tooth flex which requires a different bell than the 157T 302 flex.

This little detail caused me a lot of frustration.

All you had to do was use the 302 flexplate. ;) Same imbalance for both.

Well he will need a different bell or flex. WTF is so hard to understand about that?

:naughty: He won't need either if going from a 302 to a 351. What's so hard to understand about that ?:deadhorse You must be the only one who hasn't figured that out yet. :biglaugh:

Well if you replace the tranny, try to find one that is pan filled. It will be stronger. Then you will need to use a 164 tooth flex on your engine.

If the I6 was a 250, it will work with a 157 tooth flex. the reason this is so important is that either bell will bolt right up, but if it isn't the right size, the starter won't fit.

    Good luck.
