you need to cut the shock towers. theres a mod you need to perform in order to install the 351. check out the forums.

WOW! Thanks for the fast reply. I have had the towers shaved as far down as the control arms. I tried the maverick 302 engine mounts and the engine sits too low. I took the manifolds from a donor maverick and still no luck. I now have 1973 ltd mounts which are taller but now my drivers manifold hits my steering box. I must be doing something seriously wrong. My ears are open to any questions or ideas it will kill me to sell this car.

ok I think I just figured out my problem. My towers are only shaved down to the control arm. The center bulge under that was left still and that is what I am hitting.
    Thanks.

I think what they're trying to tell you is that the pre '80 302 is balanced the same as the 351, so if it IS the smaller bell (that takes a 157 flex) he can just use the 157 flex in place of the 164 and it'll work. Least that's what was done when I put a 351w in a '71 250 car & used it's existing tranny, just rounded up an old 157 flex & threw it in.

But don't feel too angered/frustrated, most of the time Ford parts don't fit other Fords anyway.:biglaugh:
