i ahve always had 4 doors since i been driving.. never had a two door. ever. now that i think about it.. that is kinda wierd.
My Maverick I had in highschool was a mint cond 4 door dark blue vinyl top. over white with Dark blue cloth, real cloth not the Lawn chair stuff, That car was awesome, still like four doors. Ironically my Comet is the exact opposite of the Maverick, ( just occured to me) 2 doors, lawn chair fabric, White Halo top over Blue Body. Both interior were blue though. I'd like another Mav or comet four door to have a matched set.
the truth shall set you free...jamie. oddly enough i have been told that since i was ten.. :16suspect i wonder why... i wont be old till my bday.. ill be 30 on july 4th this year. than i will consider myself old.
if you go to my page at http://groups.msn.com/71mav/shoebox.msnw there are alot of pics of my restomod 4 dr. original paint color except for the grabber stripe theme. mine was originally ordered with the grabber drivetrain but in a 4 dr platform. the engine is running appx 350 hp and future plans call for 355 gears, a 3" cowl hood, 2" drop in the front end, and a front a dam under the gravel guard. it also has a b/m shifter on the hump and the tranny was built by a well known local drag racer with a custom 3000 stall tourque converter and will andle 450 hp without a problem. i get as many comments at shows as the 2 doors and people are generally amazed that there are any 4 drs still running around let alone being restored. the only mav i have parked next to that gets more attention is part-times neon yellow one. it is beautiful and you DEFINATLY can't miss that yellow. i am currently in the planning stages for a 77 4 dr buildup for my wife.color is undecided but i am pretty sure we are going to keep her original 250 and do a clifford performance buildup. i currently have a mostly rust free car sitting under cover waiting it's turn. keep the 4 dr fever burning B.T.W. MY TAG READS 4DR-8UUP
Plans have changed since we went and looked at that 70' yesterday. The rusty ol' 4 door will be parts.
by "grabber drivetrain" i was refering to a 302 instead of the standard 6cyl, 5 lug axles instead of the standard 4lug, and i can't verify this but i was told she ordered it with a heavier duty suspention (large woman). i still haven't found any proof that you could get a 302 as stock in a 4dr in 1971. i have found you could get it in a 2 dr but i can't find info on a 4 dr. i do know for a fact the original owner ordered the car this way. little tidbits that make things unique.
A V-8 came standard with 5-lugs. A V-8 was available in any two door or 4-door Maverick in 1971.....starting in December of that model year. Most Grabbers came with 6 cyl...so saying a Maverick had a "Grabber drivetrain" doesn't really mean anything because most Grabbers had 6 bangers.
