The falcon 4 speed, Borg warner 4 speed, Ford top-loader 4 speed but all of these trannys only have a 1:1 final drive ratio and wont help your fuel milage.A 3000 pound car that is getting 25 MPG is pretty good. My old Falcon only got 27 MPG in stock trim. The best I ever got out of it was 41 MPG but it had no power and I had to be careful not to overheat it. I decided that 27 was good enough after a short period of time driving with a top speed of 55mph and no power to climb hills faster than a crawl. Everything is a tradeoff, the adapter is cheap and makes it easy. The T-5 is a good tranny that the 200 won't hurt - ever!

Yes, and you need an adapter for the bellhousing and you will need to modify the transmission crossmenber. You will need to use a different clutch linkage as well.

Thanks for replying So when you say I need to use a different clutch linkage to use the T-5 do you mean a completely different clutch pedal assembly if so do you know what I can use. And where to get it

Clutch pedal, cable and release fork or pedal, master cylinder and slave or hydraulic throwout bearing.
I don't have any parts recomendations but it has been done and explained in these forums. The first place to look is in the tech articles.

If you use an adapter plate, you can use your existing clutch linkage. If you go with a T5 bellhousing, then you need different linkage. Stock bellhousing & linkage pushes the clutch fork rearward to disengage the clutch. A t5 bellhousing pulls the fork forward to disengage the clutch.

Thanks any help is good. I have a 3 speed in the car with a 200 6cly.
So are you saying to use the 3 speed bellhousing on the T5 with The adapter plate between the stock bellhousing and the trans or between the engine and the trans. So then I won't need to change the pedal assembly? The adaptor plate I'm talking about is a T5 bellhousing spacer sold on the mustang plus site. Is that what you are talking about?

Pull your 3 speed out, bolt on the adapter plate, and then bolt the t5 in. Yes, the kind they sell at mustang places. You will have to modify the cross member to bolt to the t5. Not sure about the 70 tunnel. Barry may chime in here. He's running a t5 in his 70. You might pm him. bmcdaniel

You will have to modify the bracing over the tunnel to put in the T5. It hits the brace.

Thanks! When you said "Pull your 3 speed out, bolt on the adapter plate, and then bolt the t5 in"
Just to be clear I bolting the adapter plate to the T5 bellhousing then to the engine or to the 3speed bellhousing and bolt it to the T5? Do I still need to change pedal assemblies? I'll try to pm Barry may chime bmcdaniel

As long as you use your bellhousing, you won't need to replace the clutch pedal and linkage. Just use the adapter bolted to the back (transmission side) and bolt the transmission to it. You still might need to modify the cross member and mount and you might need a shorter driveline.

OK So I bolt the adapter to the transmission side of the stock bellhousing then bolt that to the transmission. That sound correct?
I just need to figure out what to do about the crossmember and probably shorten the driveline.

    Thanks!
    Shaun
