A friend of mine has a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 and was needing a fuel tank. Either a repop or good used one. Any suggestions on where to look ?

As far as I could find, the 65 is not made but a quick search of a different forum said a 66 is made and just needs a different set of straps, as it is slightly bigger. But I checked a parts catalog and did not see 66 listed either.

So if he has his old tank I would suggest a professional job by RENU. That is what I would do.

    Good luck!

I think his fuel tank is salvageable.

As long as most of the tank is still there, RENU can fix it. Even holes you can stick your fist through.

No rust holes. Just a little trashy in the tank.

If the tank is still pretty decent, this is what I would do if it was mine:

Take it to an old school radiator repair shop. They can boil it out to remove the junk and rust. Then they can pressure test it, find any pin holes and braze them up. Some shops offer a sealing service but I like doing that myself. I use a good commercial type tank internal coating - my personal favorite is RED COAT. 2 quarts will do a car gas tank. The stuff dries really fast so you have to work quick with it. You want to get the entire inside coated in one shot.

Google RED COAT gas tank sealer and take a look at it. I know my local O'reilly has it.
