you mean between the outer edge of the lens to the outer edge of the steel housing when the grills are removed from the top?

from the outer edge of the lens to the outer edge of the housing is 3/4'' with a step down about 1/4 out, where the grill bexle seats

from the bottom of the lens to the bottom of the housing is 1 1/4''

I'm talking about the housing itself. if you get a chance later post a pic of the housing looking right over the top of it.
I'm not for sure, but I think the ones you have may work if you get creative.;)

i actually know a guy locally here who has some kinda mopar lights in his mav, i think they are chargers turned upside down. they were in the last issue of shorthorns.

you might want to email mavaholic and see if he has the pic he can post. its a dark blue car owned by Dan "iforgethislastname" here in DE

It's really not that hard to get this:

I think you need to write a tech article ray

im sure were not the only ones who like shelby lights on these cars :)

you think the procedure for the 68 lights is much diffrent then the 69?

I'm not sure how much difference there is bewteen the 68 and 69 panel and not sure I'd wanna find out. I used the 68 panel myself.

    Okay...Here's your tech article:
    1. cut out tail light holes
    2. glue shelby panel on
    3. install tail lights
    See...as easy as 1,2,3

    :)
Well...maybe a little tougher than that. If you haven't done so, click on my restoration pics link and you might get a little better idea of what I did.

so did you replace your whole tail panel or mount the fiberglass one to what was left of the original?

im really curious to see what the tail light mounting on either version, 67/68, looks like from inside the trunk

I cut the raised portion out. I then used about the middle 12 inches of that removed section, welded it back in for the gas cap location, trimmed the fiberglas panel to fit, bonded it with 3M panel bonding adhesive, molded in the outer edges, painted, installed the lights. Only took about 2 hours to do the whole job...unless you count the other 20 hours of trial fitting. :D

durr, i didnt even notice where you flatened the tail panel

so are the lights bolted to the steel panel and the fiberglass sits around them?

Yes, there are 4 bolt holes in the T-Bird tail lights and they go thru the metal panel. The tail lights slide in fron the outside.
If I had it to do over again I would use one of the led kits they advertise in the Mustang magazines. It would simplify a lot of things.
