Agreed and the Comet isn't exactly gonna be shabby either... BTW Nash, I went through the whole build thread over on HAMB, was thoroughly enjoyable...
The battery will be relocated to the trunk so I made a new battery tray that will bolt to the trunk floor on the passenger side. The empty battery recess under the hood was a perfect place for the Coyote's brain box.
The engine and transmission are back out now so I can start detailing the engine bay. I had already routed the electrical and plumbed the brake lines.
Started cleaning up the engine bay today. I noticed some bulging in the sheet metal in the battery tray area. Sure enough there was rust in between the two layers of metal. Since I will not be mounting my battery there I cut out the entire section including the reinforcing plate underneath and welded in new metal. I then started filling all of the unneeded holes in the engine bay. Aside from the large holes for the heater/AC and such there were a bunch of smaller holes to fill. I stopped counting at 20. Lots of grinding, filling and priming before things are smooth enough to paint.
Why not keep it the original color? I don't think I've seen anyone build a Maverick/Comet in Anti-Establishment Green. I think that is what the original color is called.
Good suggestion. I thought about it but I'm not confident enough in my painting abilities to spray metallic colors. I'm afraid things will come out blotchy. Maybe it's not as hard as I'm making it out to be but the last thing I want is to not be happy how the paint lays out.
