Probably more than you're looking to spend, but it'd be a lot easier to move in and out of the car, etc. http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/pyp-3024/overview/make/ford That frame looks amazing! Keep up the good work!!
Ya that's allot! Decided to go ahead and use my block and a couple jacks. Got the engine mounted with the engine plates and it set at 2 degrees tail end down for drive line phasing. Instead if offsetting the rear end. The plates seem really stable but I would like to put in 2 lateral limiters but due to how close the frame rails are I'm pretty sure I won't have the space after steering and the headers but I don't know if normal engine mounts would be any better. Also a good idea I found out after installing my plates is if you get some rubber Chevy style engine mounts and use them to isolate the plates from the frame that should decrease vibrations a lot.
Got a little hung up on posting, but the work has continued. Finished the frame and all the front suspension mounts. I put in .5 inch spacers on the front a-arm for adjustment. Lower arms have a threaded hiem for adjustment. Rear rails got put on with enough clearance for the 4 inch travel length. Rear suspension is gonna be a 3 link design like the ones from circle track. Top link will be push bar with a pull bar to isolate acceleration and deceleration tuning. Also decided on a clutch setup. Doing a 5.5 button clutch 3 Disc setup. Mounting the body to the frame this weekend so it should look like a car again soon! As always any suggestions or ideas are welcome!!!!
The rest of the floor is removed now. Also if anyone wants the floor boards pm me. Great condition no rust.
Awesome build! I just notice frm todays pic ur adding a full frame under that body. I had followed the thread to some extent, but not intensily. Will be watching it now- regularly. Are u doing all/most of the work by urself? No doubt ur one of the highly creative folks on this forum. I have to assume u have a serious background in fabrication. Anyway, very interesting work/project u have going. Gud Luck with it...
Hey, how did I miss this thread? We're doing kinda the similar thing Lemme know if you need any thing from me -- measurements etc.
Great job so far. What is going to be your final engine size? Where are you in Michigan? I am in Redford. Lee "THE MAV" Richart
Thanks! I'm doing all the work myself, it's really to help start my fabrication shop and show off my work! Lzoesch I've been watching your build and its very cool. I like your frame design very similar design. I live in Hastings on the West side of the state. If you ever wander over this way let me know always time for a drink with a fellow Maverick owner lol. The engine for now will be a Stout 351w looking for the 4th mark. Then I was looking at one of the new big bore 351w. For a turbo build!!!
Finally getting a chance to post an up date. Got then body on the frame not fully welded but got it squared and ready. Took 6 people to move, but it was easier then we thought. I do still have to extend the rear frame out to the tail panel and get the cross brave in before I can start on the cage. Also got some sheet metal holes to fill.
thought I'd make an update on some progress. Got my quick change out of the trailer and started the tear down to get the new axles and tubes for the mav. Also decided on the drive train finally. Its going to be Turbo 351w backed by a 6speed. so let me know what you guys think ill list everything I can think of below: Engine........................1971 357W - stock crank Scat H-Beam rods with Probe forged pistons (9:5) Turbo.........................Borg Warner S475 Heads.........................TFS Twisted Wedge Cam...........................Howard Hyd Roller 224/224 .551/.551 Intake manifold............Hurricane Plus Tranny........................Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed Carburetor...................CSU 750- blow thru Looking to put down 600whp at 12psi. its going to be a single turbo and looks like it will spool pretty close to 3500rpm , I'm going to try to keep the redline at 6500 at most! hopefully i can keep it at 6000rpm but the temptation!.
I haven't given any comments for a long time but I'll just through this out for whatever it's worth. First, you are actually putting a quick change under the Maverick..................WOW, really cool. Hope it's a 10" and you have a good Torsen in it. I've had a couple in street rods and love the whine. Now,why would you buy good rods and pistons and use a "stock cast" crank on a boosted car, or for that mater, a stock block that you are going to get 650+HP at the crank.................you are going to blow the motor apart when the crank lets go. I've built a 408 with stock block, but added 4bolt mains and had an Eagle forged crank, HBeam rods and Probe forged pistons and made 644hp with a single 1050cfm carb. If you are going to spend the money on good rods/pistons also buy a good crank. I also hope you have a good machinist to prep the block (priority oiling, oil line from the galley to timing chain, etc, etc......................if not you'll be picking pieces of the motor out of the asphalt.............IMHO
