There is a story behid this car. My dad and my cousin were at the spring race in Atlanta in 71 when they saw these cars make a parade lap before the race. It was just a matter of who got to the dealership first. My cousin won. They had a couple of Stabbers but he loved the lone black GT with the silver stripes. He thought the black slots and side pipes would really set this car off so he had the Stabber package added. The Stabber decals are missing because at the time the lettering was only offered in black. (My dad not to be out done ordered a Grabber blue Mach 1.) In 1990 Ronnie (my cousin) had recently lost his father who had signed for the car. He decided to either sell it or his fathers car. He decided to keep his dads' 68' Cyclone, but he did'nt want to sell his Comet to just anyone so he called my dad and asked if he wanted to buy it. My dad knew the cars history and how it had been garage kept and jumped at it. He gave $1500, put it in my name and gave it to me when I turned 16 one year later. The car has been garage kept for all but the three years I drove it. I've only known that it might be rare for about a year when I found people on this site asking about Stabbers.
We have talked before and you have an awesome car, I would spend the money for the Deluxe Marti as that is just more paperwork to back up the car, you can't beat documentation.
Wow, 1 of 5 Comets made like that in '71...and you probably have the only Stabber out of the 5, which means you have a 1-of-a-kind car.
Very impressive car! Hope to see it in person some time. Maybe you can make one of the Ga meets next year...I'll certainly try to be there too.
