more eye candy for you i started off with ugly custom made door panels. as i wasn't able to get a set of two woodgrain door panels i decided to go with a set of standard ones, off ebay for a decent price. the condition was alright, with only minor cuts. i glued everything back together, fiberglassed the openings on the back side so that the fasteners wouldn't tear the fiberboard apart again: today i had the time to put everything back together, starting with the watershields which proved to be very good fitment and quality. the deluxe arm rests on the standard door panels look very nice. you can also see where i had to drill a second hole for them: i also completed the pedal set and mounted the shifter plate for the hurst competition plus. maybe i'll mount the seats tomorrow!
Thomas, my standard black interior door panels are similar to your own. In good shape overall but still 40 years old. I was going to use SEM black interior dye on the panels and rear enclosures to give them a uniform look instead of un-uniform fading from age. Might be a thought for you since the rest of your interior looks brand new. Another thing I'm installing is a nice set of deluxe arm rests that I got from Ebay
The door panels look good. Were yours adhered well around the edges still? The reason why I ask is that I scored nice panels a dozen years ago out of a local junkyard here in Florida. They have been stored since, but not any place that gets hotter than a car interior here. (140 degrees... ). Mine seemed like they had shrunk over time. The glue had broken down and the vinyl seemed about an 1/8th inch smaller all around ... otherwise, truly great condition. I took an extra step to staple mine in more places after gluing. Had to hand-cut short legs on regular staples. The vinyl was really close to the edge in the middle of the panels. Just wondering if panels from cooler climates experience the same shrinkage.
bob, thanks for the advice. i'll have to see what's available over here. spray cans are a no go item for air freight, so this might be a little difficult. jeff, the old glue on my panels was completely gone, i had to redo every edge and corner. the seemed shrunken in some places, but it held up pretty well in the end!
wow! man your attention to detail is truely impressive. You need a better camera but amazing work. Hey what size is that shifter boot?
yeah, i know - the iphone4 has no decent camera. the shifter boot is from mustangsunlimited, for a 70 mustang: http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=7277B+01
glad you like it front seats are in! i was so happy that i spent 20 minutes just sitting in the car! this is when i noticed that i'm sitting pretty high. i'm 6'3, and wearing a baseball cap my head was just about touching the headliner. i might try the 71 mustang seat tracks that came with the seats...
Cool seeing all your seats upholstered .... gives me something to look forward to since I am using the same kit. My Cougar bucket seats came with the very same tracks as the Mustang units you have there. Not close at all. I am 6'1" and am using LDO bucket seat tracks. They mock up very well for a tall guy. They put those buckets down low. My 5'2" wife might need a pillow.
i took a seat again today - will definitely try out the different seat tracks. help me out with some opinions. placed the consolette today - as i have a floor shifter, it doesn't sit flush with the trans tunnel and is also placed a little too far to the front. shall i keep it or go without it?
Even though it isn't necessarily in the "correct" spot, I like it. I think that tucked up under the dash tray gives it some interest. They all don't have to be in the same plane. I build furniture as a hobby, and putting a "reveal" into the design is something that is strived for there.... gives it more interest and depth. I would move it slightly away from the shifter base ... maybe an 1/8th inch. The fact that they are touching makes it looked unplanned. Since we are looking at design ... I would tuck those gauges in tighter. Right now, they are just screaming "hey ... look at me". If you put those right next to the radio bezel and in the same plane, I really think it would look a lot cleaner. I would be tempted to paint the inside of that gauge bracket black, just leaving a chrome edge. I know that where they are, you are right at the edge of the dash. A flat plate would be able to set them back further. Food for thought .... :Handshake All that said ... the rest of the car is just gorgeous!
