The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I used a 4" x 14" one and I still had about half and inch to spare.(with a functional scoop you can get away with more)

My setup was performer 289 intake,Holley 4160, 1" carb spacer and the 3060 K&N which has a 1.25" drop base.(I needed the spacer to clear the duraspark cap)

Thomas, the car looks great!! You are inspiring me to get working on my car. Thank you, your motivation is rubbing off, and this is a good thing. I am a reforming procrastinator. So seeing what is possible if you decide to put your heart into it, just shows what patience and perserverance can do. I am happy for you. Enjoy your new car!
P.S. where are you coming to in B.C.? Family Holiday? Have a good time. The weather is just starting to get better here. It has been alot of rain this year so far. So I hope that it is nice while you are here. So you can get out and enjoy all that B.C. has to offer...

ryan, it's the third time i went to BC. i have a friend living in vancouver, which helps a lot to see all the places you wouldn't normally see as a regular tourist.
we went down to seattle and portland this time, but in the second week we drove as far up as prince rupert. we took the inside passage ferry to vancouver island. a little pricey, but worth every penny!

worked some more on the car.

my windshield had a nasty crack:

it appeared a week after the install - maybe it was pushed to hard, maybe it was not the best idea to reuse the 38 year old chipped and scratched windshield anyway. found a new one in sweden. there's a company who custom makes them (factory is in finland from what i've heard.
    ready to install:

    chrome and wipers on:

hood back on and headlight trim, too:

    it's not that far anymore!

    Tody,

It is really starting to look like a whole car again. Congratulations ... won't be long now.

It just occurred to me that a Comet being built in Germany reminds me of something ... now, what could that be .... Oh yeah ... here is it ....

Oh yeah ... this is good stuff.... tasty.

My buddy decided to invent a new drink, half Das Komet and half Captain Morgan Rum, and called it a "Captain Comet".

We only attempted that once ... yuck .... ;)

jeff, that bottle is looking funny. seems like somebody was trying to literally translating an english label to german... your Captain Comet sound interesting, though ;)

in the meantime, it seems that i have solved my header problem on the driver side. would you call this "clearance"?
    just about right, i'd say!
here you can see how much i had to modify on the header:
makes you scratch your head if some people say it fit their car without problems...

i trimmed down the zbar a little:
and slotted the middle bolt as i had no chance to fit a wrench in there. mounted it with a screwdriver from below:
clutch operation seems to work - zbar is scratching a little in some areas, but i hope that's not too bad.

apart from that, i mounted the rearview mirror and put on a nice windshield decal:

if all goes well, i might have a little video for you guys tomorrow!

Wow, that's a lot of "clearancing" I used long tube Headmans years ago, they didn't need any of that....

yeah, had some issues with the hooker 6901. but they're the only one that work with a manual transmission...

and now for something completely different.

    IT'S ALIVE!
