very awesome!! great to know i helped with the build of this car in a small part from half a world away :Handshake
Congratulations Tody!!! You have obviously worked very hard on this car in your spare time, and have done an outstanding job. You have an incredible looking Mercury Comet...Love the Blue Color. All of us fellow members of the Mav/Comet forums are happy for you. Thank you for sharing your project with us!
the project ain't finished yet more little things to tweak here and there. here's a nice shot of yesterday's work. same car, different garage - a friend of mine will be welding a nice stainless steel exhaust with borla pro xs mufflers: we also put on a 600 holley dp and let the engine properly break in. man, that beast sounds hungry! due to my stupidity, i need a new speedo cable. my water temp gauge seems to be broken. and i need to mount the tach on the column. but the good side to it all was that the car is spinning it's wheels in all gears while on the lift. i also went through the rear brakes again, as the versailles has adjustable pistons. i noticed that only when i couldn't get any parking brake. another lesson learned... but now the brakes seem to work as they should. more to come!
close, but no cigar... here's a shot of how we picked up the car last weekend: here's parts of the new exhaust - stainless 2.5" with borla pro xs mufflers: here's even a quick video after the rollout. the car sounds pretty mean: http://youtu.be/F0k17auJbSk but there's also a downside to it. i'm not quite happy with the stance of the car. new 4 leaf jrs springs in the back, new kyb gr-2 shocks. but the wheels are just too wide - they rub on the fenders. 245/60 r14 is way too wide, but even if i go down to 225, they will still hit. i'm afraid the wheels will have to go. i have a set of 15" cragars. i might try these out... stay tuned!
Video of the year!! It apears that the left rear sits out an inch more than the right.. mine did/does. I also think the rear seems a little low.. 15s to me are almost too tall..
Car looks and sounds great! I agree with you on the wheels ... too much offset. If you get the right wheels, 245s are an easy fit. It is just a matter of centering them in the wheelhouse. It is a shame that those wheels won't work out ... I like them. I was looking for a set for my DD 98 Explorer Sport, and never did find a good combo of available wheels. Got a nice set of other wheels that I am very happy with now. If you eBay those, they will get snapped up, likely by someone doing a Dukes of Hazzard Charger ... that tag seemed to be linked to any set I found out there.
I have 235/60/14's on the back of my car....no rubbing. I agree with the others.....you just need the correct wheel. I like the Cragar idea!!
stefan, the photo was taken with the 'old photo pro' app for the iphone. nice toy... i worked out the problems with the wheels. drove the car back home yesterday. had some electrical issues - a really bad short in the ignition switch. will have to rewire some parts. but all in all, it doesn't look too bad:
Looks really good! I'm curious about the responses your getting locally... When I was stationed in Hohenfels a soldier in our admin section shipped his DeLorean over. I wonder if he brought it back or sold it.
