I don't know if it 'usual" but our Comet has pretty much the same rust, only not as severe as yours in some areas... keep up the great work!

i'll keep on keeping on :D

let's hope mean_maverick is able to get me all the sheet metal parts from his personal junkyard - that would be a giant leap for me!

I guess I said that thinking of the quarter window rust. I've never seen it there. :disagree:

mean_maverick just told me that he has nearly all the sheet metal parts available. from him, i'll get front and rear passenger floor pans, rear passenger torque box and the two cowls.
the whole thing should come along nicely :thumbs2:

more small repairs done today. i figured i had a fairly good dash pad and wanted to put a new cap over it. after closely inspecting it, i discovered that there was already a cap on it!
after removing it, i found a nice 37 year old cracked dash
glued the cap on, it's now drying in the afternoon sun:

i also took apart the shifter - from the part number it looks like i have a pinto part. nevr dull is simply the best polish in the world

and now to the bad parts: the previous ownder in sweden tried to manually convert the speedo to kph. by putting little badges on and blacking out the mph numbers with a magic marker... no way to remove it without also removing the black paint underneath. so i guess i'm in for a new speedo. that or white overlays, which i personally can't stand.

    Tody,

I have a speedo out. I can send it to you for shipping cost. Maybe it's not too late for the container.

Might be a little late for this ....

Try using rubbing alcohol to remove permanent marker. Usually works very well, but I don't know if it will hurt the speedo face. I believe those are silk-screened on.

just found out the newly acquired floor shifter doesn't fit the hump. posted another wanted ad.
the tach thing seems to work out quite well. my friend is on holidays in brazil right now and will get me a complete instrument cluster.

today, i prepped my grille lights. cleaned everything up, painted the inside bright white for better reflection.

there's one thing i need to find out. which bulb sockets can i use? the ones i had weren't any good any more. as i will have headlights with parking lights included - a requirement in germany - i will only use the grille lights as turn signals. so i won't need a 1157 dual filament bulb, but a single filament 1156 bulb. anyone know where i can get matching sockets?

earlier in the thread i mentioned that i got a pair of sport mirrors off ebay - the deal fell through, though. but i found another driver side sports mirror, with a working remote - complete with mounting nut and washer. only $25 via ebay!
i even got a wasps nest included for free

finished prepping the grille. as the old one was busted and the only one i could find was a regular 73 grille, i decided to at least paint it like a gt grille. a layer of aluminum grey first, masking everything after and then painting it in black...
