    1970 2.3 Turbo Maverick

    Greetings,

    Wecome to the 2.3 club!

Here are some pictures of my 1970 Maverick. It is a 30,000 mile car with original body and paint. Granada brakes up front, 9' with 4.56 mini-spool out back. 2 years ago I installed the 2.3 turbo, and T-5. The motor is fairly stock (rebuilt) with the exceptions of: Custom SS exhaust manifold, custom alternator bracket, gutted and rotated upper intake, aftermarket wiring harness, Ranger roller cam, adjustable cam pulley, underdrive crank pulley, custom SS air ducting, 3" SS exhaust, custom motor and trans mount and probably a few other things I am forgetting. I am running the OEM IHI turbo at about 14 psi. Best ET to date: 14.19 @ 95 mph.

It is currently receiving Calvert Racing springs, rear narrowed to accept larger rear tires (currently 245's), 4.56 locker and 31 spline aftermarket axles (broke a OEM 28 spline last summer), adjustable rear shocks.

Holy cow, the 2.3 Mav's are coming out of the wood work now! Welcome to the board guys! I too am building a 2.3 Mav. I got all the wiring figured out and got it running back in July, but have yet to get the car drivable. Right now I'm just waiting on the Pinto oil pan to get here, which is supposed to be in the mail right now.

maverick88tc, I hope to get to see your car in person sooner or later. We usually have a big Maverick get together at Fun Ford Weekend in Commerce, GA sometime in April. If we do it again this year, it would be awesome if you could make it down with your car.

I should have kept the nice 2.3 I built last year and stuck in a Ranger. It was just carbureted but it would scoot for what it was.

yeah i would love to go to commerce, i have been to the one in bristol. were are you located at in ga. i go to brainerd drag strip alot. i was wondering if anyone else had built one or not, i couldn't stand that 456 gear , that car might actually run faster with more like a 355 or 373 . that way you wouldn't be shifteing so much. i havent decided which gear i am going to go with yet.

A friend of mine had a 87 2.3 turbo ranger withvery similiar engine tranny set ups. The truck weighd in @ 2600# . It ran it's fastest with a 3.27 gear. Best et was in the 13.40's. With a 50 shot of nitrous it ran 12.30's. This was also his daily driver. It would get around 20-25 mpg.

The 2.3 is not a light engine. Even in N/A form, it weighs almost as much as a 302.
