77 Mav fuel guage problems

    I posted about my son's 77 maverick, first mini project is repairing the fuel guage, we're having a tendancy to run out of gas. Any suggestions on the first place to start?

    There is a electrical connection back on the gas tank. Pull it off and short the 2 pins together inside the plug with a paper clip or piece of wire. Turn on the key to the run position. If the gauge deflects over to the full mark, The gauge, regulator, and associated wire is all good. The problem will be in the sending unit.
