I believe the rules state that a chute is required on 9.99 and faster. Your required to deploy a chute at 150mph and up.
This was an NHRA track (in fact, owned by NHRA) and they let Rick run everyday without a chute. There were others running faster that 9.9 without chutes. Every car running 150 mph and faster had chutes. Not all deployed them. The guys runing 7.40 and faster deplyed, but their speeds were over 170 mph. Atlanta Dragway has a fairly long shut down area. I thought the rule was for mph not ET.
Terry is correct. It's any car over 150...ET doesn't matter...as anal as the track officials were there if I had run over 150 they would have told me...no chute...no pass, whether I needed it or not.
The second 1/8 mile is where I win most of my races but then again my car is setup for 1/4 mile racing. 4.11 gear ratio. 1/8 mile is Ok but I'm OLD school... Real drag racer do it a 1/4 at a time! I'm sure this post will start something! SWEET run Rick you must be proud! Bossmav
Would "Another somewhat less expensive reason for you to stick with 1/8 dragging, huh, Rick?" have been better?
sorry. nhra div 1 stuck in a rule a few yrs ago that anyone exceeding 135 mph needed all the under 10.00 equipment including the chute. just a div rule.
do you change gears or setup when you go from 1/8 to 1/4 tracks? seems like it would be a pain to remove the center section to go to different length tracks
It won't start anything with me:evilsmile I think it all depends on what you cut your teeth on as to what your preference is...I like em both.....BUT, that second 1/8th is a "Sunday Drive" compared to the first 1/8th ..... here we go
Simon read ALL of the first posts...it explains what I did to run the 1/4 without changing the gears out. A 4.56 gear would have been optimal I think, but I would've just been happy with the tranny workin right.
Nice run, "Ripper". I read the posts, I don't think anyone asked what size tires you run (I'm guessing 10.5W x 29.5")
Big Meats Rick....32x15's..a big burnout like in the video is really a waste of good rubber. It turns out my tranny is okay for the most part but the converter is mush, most of the internals were laying in the bottom of the tranny pan, that explains why my 60's went from a 1.22 to a 1.33 over the last 20 passes or so the converter came with the car when I got it and did fine when it was a 408 but just couldn't handle the 427.... hmmmmm...wonder what it's gonna do with a fresh converter in it
