I knew it... I just knew it.... and you guys said Maverick's didn't come with 351's HA!! see right here... Yea and the next thing you'll tell me is that I can't fit a 10" wide tire under there. All kidding aside, Race cars are just too cool. Corvette yellow? I thought it was Banana yellow:bananaman :bananaman :bananaman Russ
What do you think it will run 22 seconds in 1/4??? Save yourself the disgarce and embaressment and just give it to me so I can fix that yellow turd right Just kiddin man looks sweet OLDGUY/MAVMAN. Let us know how it runs:bananaman
Well, it made it's maiden voyage today. The first run was a wash...on & off the throttle, fighting a severe pull to the right, but still netted a 6.59 @ 106 in the 1/8, 8.49 117 in the 1000' off the throttle. I set some preload on the 4 link and got it going straight, but was fighting a miss going into high gear, turned out to be a timing issue (not going there...I feel like an idiot). Got the timing fixed, or halfway fixed anyway (enough to get a clean run) and ran it out the back door. The 60' was off as water was seeping out of the track, and the 4 link needs some more tuning. The rear of the car squats more than I'd like it to, and carries the front wheels 4-6" for about 10-15 feet downtrack. The squat is helping to pull the rear off the pavement and "soften" the launch. I can feel it in the driver's seat...it feels like someone pushed down on the rear of the car with 1000 lb of force, then it moves down track. Nothing that a 4-link tuning session can't fix. The brakes worked MUCH better than I expected, considering the front rotors are only 9" dia stock Pinto/ M2 brakes with carbon metallic pads. The hotter they get, the better they work. I just put steady pressure on the pedal, and as they heat up, it feels like someone is pushing the pedal harder and harder. Actually, they work so well I have to release some pressure on the pedal once they start to warm up. I highly recommend those carbon metallic pads! The best 60' was a 1.5000, again with no other tuning other than a preload adjustment and the 4.56 gears in the 9" (but with 31.5" tall tires). I shift at 6200, cross the finish at around 5500 or so in high, which brings up an interesting story. The first pass was the first time I'd driven it in ages, and with the new headers I could't get a "feel" for the sound of when I should shift. Both hands on the wheel, halfway down the track, and I look at the tach...only to see the needle sitting on 8300. Time to get off the loud pedal! Still went 117 in the 1000', off the throttle. The total gain (so far) over the stock suspension, is .3 and 5 mph. I ran some 1.39 60s last year, so hopefully I can get that back with some adjustment and rear gears. Cant complain though, I went up there with NO intentions of winning any rounds, and went 3 rounds before water on the track cancelled any further races. Just my luck....I don't try to win rounds, and get lucky, if I try...I usually go home 1st round
Sounds like a great learning weekend.........and as you know there is ALOT of adjustability with your new set-up........almost too much sometimes! Keep us posted
I'm  . Who's car mde the maiden voyage? Mavman or Old Guy or Dave or ?? Either way, awsome numbers (I think it's you, Dave). Sounds like some more fun time to be had during Test and Tune. :bananaman and !
Hey Rick, it was the Maverick of Todd's(mavman) that has been in construction for the last 4-5 months. I posted a story on my fairmonts race day, on Did you race this weekend? thread. Dave
