A must have Torino!!! 70 429 SCJ 4 speed Tasca drag pack

I've heard lots of stories about blown 428CJ in warranty being replaced with SCJ engines/short blocks...

AND a FYI, did you know there were no 428 SCJ in '68? Not one, nada, zip(and some of those cars had 3.91 or 4.11 cogs)... Also there were none in '69 till approx 1st week of Oct production... If I remember correctly earliest one I had in registry was a Oct 7 build(regular production started last week of Aug)... Drag Pack with oil cooler and either 3.91 or 4.30 gears was announced at approx same time the '69 models hit the showrooms...

 

When I blew my CJ up (it was glorious, thick smoke trailing me and in the cabin), I bought an entire 428SCJ short block with a spun bearing from some Chevy racer who took it in trade for a debt owed to him. When I looked at the rods, I immediately smiled as they were 427 Lemans. He had no idea from Adam what the differences were. Replaced the bolts and no more rod issues.

 

I might have heard that as it sounds vaguely familiar. But I'd be far more inclined to believe it coming from you, Tom.

Seems like all the newer knowledge I'm trying to absorb starts pushing out the older stuff just to make room. lol
