Just saw in the September Modified Mustangs and Fords that IDIT is making a tilt aftermarket column with Ford wiring connectors for 68-69 Mustangs. A little pricey if you ask me though. They quoted the chrome one for $676.00. Would be nice though if it had the key for the newer cars with the switch on the column.

Your not hijacking the thread. This is all good information that will help me and hopefully others make an educated decision about doing a column swap. I would also like the tilt option. (y)

Thought I would update this just a little. I just ordered a new Ididit tilt steel column. I am going with the keyless, non chrome, 30" column. When I get it and start to mock it up I will post some info on it. I am going to try and adapt the lower firewall mount from my stock column to the new tilt unit that way it should bolt to the stock location there. I do see having to modify the upper column mount at the dash. Not completely sure how I will tackle that yet.

I've used a few Flamin' River columns but there again they are patterned after GM.

They are $445 for the tilt steering column in paintable Machined S/S. It is for a floor shift and is 33 inches. You can find it on Flamin' Rivers site under 65 66 Mustang or 65 Comet. I will check and let you know the prices from a couple other places I have bought them thru.

The 30" Ididit was $365 to my door.

Car-nut, what are you going to do for the ignition switch? In dash like the 69.5's had?

I want to put cruise control in my GT and looks like they can add it to any column. I just might have to buy one of those.

Yes, sort of! I am getting rid of the lower shelf and replacing it with a panel that will go from side to side of the dash. That is where the ignition, headlight, radio, wiper and possibly the heater controls will be. Stay tuned to my build thread for more updates on the dash soon.

Sounds sorta like a factory dash on 74-up, but with the wipers, lights, and heater controls added....
I never understood why Ford put the heater controls on the left in our cars and the early Mustangs. Must have been to keep from the wife burning you out with the heater!
