Okay I make a long story short, carb gave out, replaced it and I went started and it would not start then I mess around with the wires of the alternator getting it up not knowing where everything was and when I try to put it back together, connected the pos terminal and the battery started smoking and whistling, is anyone able to help me reconnect the 3 connection alternator to the regulator please? Also I needed to replace the negative battery cable but the one it has had a connection to ground to regulator, but no one makes that type of wire...anymore! I am really desperate to get my baby running but electrical crap is the worst!

Ford Charge.jpg Chassis ground wire(s) are easy. Connect #8 wire from engine to chassis or directly from battery post. Piece of wire & couple large eyelets & you're set (assumin' you've crimped the connectors correctly). Ground on battery cable was just a cheap way to not use separate ground wire. One less step on assembly line.

Here's the common Ford charge circuit that was used by most all models.

Sorry it's upside down, such a PITA to load anything on this site, I'm not trying again.

No wonder FB is taking over.:(

Would you consider upgrading to a 3G alternator and doing away with the regulator?

I went with aftermarket one wire 130 amp unit, because I run elec. fan and AC. I've had the unit about a decade w/o any issues, ditched all the 40plus year old wires and probably one of the best upgrades I've done and I've done a lot.

Thank you so much guys for your replies they've been very helpful, now for the fun part is I went to Ace hardware I bought the correct type of wires and I very fancyly put or better said rewired the whole alternator to the regulator connector according to the wires and how it was supposed to be and everything was fine then I connected the battery and nothing just nothing not a dome light nothing turns on now I am getting 12 volts 12.7 volts at the starter solenoid post where the positive battery goes into beside but the battery is good, but I just can't I just can't catch a break man... But I appreciate all your help guys I really do.
