Thats very close to what I am looking at doing. I found out that most amps take 0.2 -5V as an input. My Droid, and most headsets, are around 1V out max. So I need to preamp it up. Right now I am on the hunt for a stereo volume control to replace my mono AM knob. Went to a couple thrift stores tonite (thanks for the idea DDB), but nothing. We have a radio/cb shop in a couple towns over. My buddy is going to go and see if they have anything for sale that they pulled out of a car.

I wish it was 1987 all over again and I would just throw one of these EQs in the car

They were the hot thing back in "the day". Everyone had an external eq/amp, LOL

Those old style radios might be too old for the pawn shops, maybe the auto wreckers might have some, if you have any wreckers with older stock. I use to have one, but I'm sure I tossed it out.

I have several old AM/FM as well as Cassette radios if I can help.

    Cool project!

Not sure if you are into micro-controllers, but Maxim sells a dual channel digital potentiometer (DS1868) that you can use any micro-controller to control. You could use your AM single gang pot as an analog input to your micro and then control the stereo volume digitally.

Here is a pretty nice application: http://embedded-lab.com/blog/?p=2967

Thanks for the link. Its been a while since I have worked with micro controllers. If I cant find a suitable pot, I will keep that in mind. It looks very interesting.

Just an update...I FINALLY found an old 2 post FM radio. I ripped the POT out and put it in the AM radio. I painted the needle, Face Plate, inside plate, then put the front all back together.
Update page here....be patient as it is pic heavy.

There is something so cool about the looks of an original radio to me. I already have a Kenwood in my Maverick, but I may do something like this in my Mustang since it still has the original am radio.
