So I was in the process of removing the stock antenna and pulled the plug from the back of the original '73 radio and found a small uninsulated wire soldered to the plug. Seeing as I pulled a few inches of this thin wire from the radio; do I just cut it off, solder it to the new antenna and stuff it back in?

Bit perplexed because the spare '76 radio I have did not have a soldered lead to the antenna plug at the back of the radio.

and I'm an idiot... :banghead: after getting under there with a better light I can see that the female end at the radio came out with the male end of the antenna plug.

Exactly, didn't realize it until I went to take the picture.

Anyways hooked up the new antenna and it works alright.

In almost 50 years of servicing I haven't seen that one either...
