Well, with open 3" dumped before the axles and 4.11's, I will not be able to hear much when going down the road, but it would be nice when sitting in tracffic.
I know most of you guys won't care, but mounting the antenna under the dash or changing its length will affect radio reception, especially on AM. (Yeah even fewer people will care about that, I know!). There are various reasons for this, the biggest of which is that the antenna "likes" to have the ground plane of the steel fender under it. I am a stickler for having good radio reception, so I decided to mount a power antenna in the rear passenger quarter instead: Just thought I'd throw a few cents into the discussion.
..and it looks great. I've seen it in person. I say try an electric - especially if you're not planning to do any body/paint work soon. I'm going to try an electric at some point in time too.
I did the exact same thing on my 4-door, except on the other side. Sorry I don't have a pic handy. It looks and works great, plus there's lots of room to mount the motor, though you'll have to fabricate a bracket.
Ant. Stock has a rectangle like base. What about a boat antenna? It will get good recep without needing the 1/4 panel for ground, yes?? Anyone know, as that is what I was thinking of doing and thought I read that someone did that on here. After I get the car redone it will be nice not having an ant. to wax around or worry about with the car cover or someone messing with when Im out and about. I plan on running Flowmaster 50s when Im done--should sound good and I should still be able to hear my tunes when I want.
I'm thinking about something like this hidden antenna that can be mounted above the headliner. Anyone have any success using one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TT1E...86QQitemZ260369031986QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo
