just curious why doesnt anyone use a cable engaged OX locker?? From my understanding its locked when you pull the cable and you keep your drive-ability because you can unlock it http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-131002-ox-locker-ford-8-8-oxf88c273h-31.html
Because we dont have trucks(we have car 8" rear ends not car/truck ones like the 9/8.8). Theres also air lockers but you never see those in cars. Theres a few Electronic ones, ive only seen one in a car before. But people prefer the automatic ones.
but the Ox would be a good swap for someone that has a 9" or an 8.8" swapped in? or is there a car 9" and a truck 9"?
I have a Detroit Locker in both my Maverick and my Fairlane and wouldn't have anything else. There is no objectionable noise, only a clicking when making slow turns. Not all Detroit Lockers are the same though. Both of mine have "hold-out" collars inside the two halves which prevent the cogs from repeatedly engaging and disengaging while turning. Without them, they clunk very loudly. I have a friend with a D.L. in his Maverick and after he complained about the loud clunking, I told him about the collars I put in mine. He took it apart and there was no provision for installing them. He removed it and put his Traction-Lock back in.
I sent a message to the guy I bought the center section from and he said he is very sorry a d is sending me new springs and the cover for the spring block. So I'm going to stick with the track-loc for now. What I'm planing on doing is installing the new springs with a couple of nuts under them to shim them up and make it real tight. Is this what most of you are doing?
there is a shim behind the clutches. by puting a thicker shim in the clutchs you will get the higher brake away level. ive never shimed the springs in that style of tracloc and dont know how effective that is. if you cant find tracloc shims i have used 8" pinion shims and just cut the loops of the bolt holes off.
