I measured it and theres 3 5/8th of clearance at the rear of the floor pan then 3.25" at the point that it is closest do the driveshaft . But i made a mistake in thinking that the 8`s pininon is centered it doesnt look like it. Does anyone know how much the offset is?

yes the 8" is also offset to the passenger side about 2.5 inches. When install the yoke lines up with tunnel. I can take a picture and show you if need be.

so it has about the same offset as the explorer? It cant be that easy can it? lol. If it is you can run like a 4" driveshaft and still have enough clearance.

How did you measure this? I just went and crawled back under my car to verify. From the back of the brake drum to the drive shaft on my stock 71 Maverick, it's 25" to the center of the drive shaft on both sides. The pinion is really off center in the center chunk, but the center chunk is offset in the opposite direction in the rear so it evens out and puts the drive shaft in the middle. You might want to re-measure yours from the end of the housing to the pinion to compare.

Edit: When I measure my 8.8 Explorer rear (1996 I think), one side is about 25.75" and the other is about 29".
