Dad taught me a good tip for points. Once you have them set run a piece of paper bag between them, then look close to make sure you didn't leave any fibers between. It's just aggressive and absorbs well enough to clean any little bits of oil from the points so they're totally clean and less likely to burn.
I have a points distributor, but the points are used as a signal for a TFI module and coil out of a early '90s truck. It is not as fussy when cold as I have no choke. I am going to do this conversion to any other point fired engine I ever get. Abit of wiring, a relay, and some good junk from pick & pull. http://www.gofastforless.com/ignition/tfi.htm
If you dont get your answer here might wanna go to any parts website. Plug info for both engine and compare numbers.
From what I have read so far, the only difference is the shaft for the oil pump. Some older model engines have the 1/4" shaft and the later years had a 5/16" shaft. Still searching though
Where is heat riser in the heads? I only recall heat risers of the past in the intake w/rod hooked to carb/choke. I am going back a number of years on this one.
AFAIH... The Early 144/170/200 had the smaller shaft and a smaller distributor bore hole in the block preventing early sixes from using the Duraspark series. All 250's use newer points or DS distrib'. ... believe the 1966 series (C6xx) - six blocks were first with new type (points) distributor that will accept Durasparks'. Also C6xx up blocks are 'dual drilled' for small bellhouse or Toploader 3.03 large bell trannys. D4ZE (1974) DS-II with OEM 13R degree advance slot ( 13 crankshaft X 2 = Max of 26 degrees centrifugal advance ) haev fun
All factory heads have the heat riser opening between the center intake ports, heats intake for better fuel distribution/drivability. The external "pipe" heat risers to air cleaner came about due to lean emissions carbs. Heads on Comet are solid(sorry no pict).
So I need to get my block number off the pass side and see what I have, this will tell me then if my engine will accept a 250 distributor...
All Maverick inline engines 170/200/250 SHOULD accept same Duraspark and later Points distributors. Early six swaps sometimes used a sixties block replacements. Earliest six block I've seen in Maverick was in '71 / 170 , it is a C9DE (1969) casting block (in '63 Wagon), typical casting series for 4 main bearing 170's and seven main bearing 200's engine block . The casting number signals start date of specific casting series often modified until new casting series starts. My project build 250's are D2xx, D4xx, D6xx (72, 74, 76) and a D6DE (76) 200 currently. have fun
BBMS i'll check those measurement when i get home today to see what you got. I appreciate you wanting to help. I pulled trigger and got in an order of parts from rocauto before holiday rush. Distributor was on that list and should be in sat or mon. I got christmas week off so gonna spend some intimate time in garage. My Christmas gift to myself is to hear engine purrrrr.
