Wow, I hate to see that. My 75 looks like that... I have a roof waiting to go on it (one day). The scary part is that the vinyl top didn't look that bad. There were only a couple of little bumps visible, and no leaks. However, when I took the vinyl off, the metal peeled right off with it. If you have vinyl, you might be okay, but you should be worried. If I ever do it again, or decide to keep the halo top on my 75, it will be trimmed and then painted the color of the vinyl I want. No vinyl actually going back!
blegene, I think they have a kit now to install those little "studs", some one help us out here, I know I've seen it before. Bob, you have a PM.
that's the worst i have ever seen. but ive junked three 3 cars werent as bad as that.... imo, i'd start with something else IF AVAILABLE but if you cant find anything else reasonable then a "re-skinning" of the roof wouldnt be that bad. i'd donate a roof top if u wanna come and get it
Same here. Or I have this '76 shell you can have if you want to come get it. It needs work on the drivers side rear quarter (passenger side is flawless), battery tray area, and you may want to do a little work on the crappy-ish patch someone did on the trunk floor, but otherwise it's a solid car. You could either cut the roof off of it for your car, or use your current body for patch pieces to fix this body and swap your drivetrain and everything over. I just have no use for it, and have been thinking about scrapping it. I am keeping the doors, 5 lug rear and front disc brake spindles off of it, but it would be rollable with 4 lug drum stuff on it. http://mmb.maverick.to/gallery/showimage.php?i=5316&catid=member&imageuser=2669
wow, you people are wonderful. I was just showing what I had found. I never expected to get all these wonderful offers. I will have to do a lot ofthinking. I may go down this morning grab my sawzall and cut the top off and drive it as a convertable. lol. you really don't see many of those
Just saw the pics... OUCH! The sides are still good ... just swap in a big smoked glass roof like the new concept Mustang! I was kidding, but more I think about it, the better I like it.
Bob, you may have been kidding but just in case you weren't you will need to do alot of support to the bottom of the car to support it with no roof, kind of like a frame, maybe you can get by with just subframe connectors.
I don't know about Bob's car, but the sad thing about vinyl tops is often the entire rest of the car is rust free. My 75 was rock solid when my roof peeled off. The minor rust it has now is just from me letting it sit unattended from my disgust.
Bob the roof on Matt's 77 has some issues..........but I believe that he might be willing to part with it....it's at my house and I'm only a couple hours away from you.......just a thought!
Wow! When you told me the roof was rusty last weekend, I had no idea it looked like that! I also have a donor you might want.
