I am not 100%, but I believe your preload depends alot on how you leave the starting line. Either loading the converter or dumping the clutch at 6000.
checked with scales today I put my mav on digital scales today and did some tinkering. Interesting results, one half turn of preload adds 10 pounds of weight on that tire and the opposite front tire, therefore lightning the other wheels. specs on my car, total weight 2931 front weight 1533 rear 1398 LF 800 RF 743 LR 674 RR 725 1/2 of a turn on driver side the weight changed to LF 790 RF 753 LR 684 RR 715 With another half turn the weight went ten pounds again, in the same direction.
Were you in the car when the preload was set? Gent, you are exactly right about what caltracs do. How many Mustang's or Maverick's have you seen leave the starting line and have the left front tire higher off the ground then the right? This is because your transfer weight is going more to the right rear then to the left and of course motor rotation. To off set this problem with leafsprings John calvert did a great job with Caltrac's. When I had problems with my caltracs, I called and talked to John, all of his thinking was WAAAAAAAAY outside the box which makes me think he's not all together there. Most of your questions about caltracs have been answered on this or the classic Mustang Chev or Dodge forums, not that anyone doesn't like talking about what we know but you might find some answers faster searching these site. I couldn't tell you how many people have asked, "How do I leave the line with both tires evenly off the ground and not have a 4 link" Well the answer is Caltracs! My best 60 foot was at Hagerstown, MD and I had the both front tires at least 12 inches off the ground, 1.31 sixty. That was Sweet! Thanks for posting your find, it gives all good insite as to how caltracs works. As always just my .02 Bossmav
On the rear I have 28x10.5x15 Mickey Thompson ET drag The Front is 26x4.5x15 Mickey Thompson Front Runners My wheels are Center Line Convo Pro's Here a shot at Hagerstown but not the run I was talking about. Shot by my wife, she didn't get the car at it's highest point but you can see that by the starting line position. She trys hard!
