Yeah, I had those wheels off before I even brought it home. Not only did they jack it up, they rubbed like hell. The springs were all shot, steering box was sloppy, the alignment was bad, the bump steer was a nightmare. When braking it just jerked to whichever side it felt like going... Add tall and very wide tires to all that, and it was just unsafe.
This isn't exactly when I bought the 73, but are the earliest pictures I have. I've done LOTS of work since then. From the 2009 MCG Gathering The 71 Grabber when I bought it from the original owner. Last August - I've put in rear springs and done lots of cleanup since then. 53K original miles. Before someone asks (and I know they will ), the original owner tapped something at sometime in the cars life and messed up the Grabber hood. They replaced it with a flat hood. I have a nice Grabber hood to put back on it - just need to paint it.
Well, all the differences between then and now might not be apparent without a reference point. That's my excuse anyway.
It could have been worse.....they could have put it on one of those comets! now that would have been sinful. Lol
