Holy crap and WOW what a difference, looks great.

 

Here is a picture of someone's Comet that looks exactly like mine used to look like when i first bought it back in 1993 for $200. If i find the picture of my Comet when i first bought it i will scan it and post it, for now this picture will have to do. The Flintstones borrowed my Comet which is how it looks now - sorta. By the way Wilma left her bra in the back seat so it now is hanging on my rear view mirror.

 

There's something odd an fascinating about taking a car at the end of its lifeline and breathing new life into it.

Call me crazy, but I think every car has its own thoughts and personalities...when its sitting in the junk yard its just waiting for the inevitable end, each day that passes it sits there and wonders if thats going to be its final day, then one day someone comes and saves it, like being on death row and getting a pardon, I dont know how to explain it, but it feels like its equal to saving someones life, at least thats how I look at it, and I have very high respect for anyone who saves a car thats was once destined to be destroyed.

 

You'll see more of a difference in this one....

 

I couldn't agree with you more! All of my cars have stories. None were perfect when I bought them. Part of the enjoyment in this hobby to me is just like taking a clump of clay and molding it into something beautiful. When you are done, the price tag may be the same, but it is something YOU accomplished.

My most satisfying one so far is my '69 Dark Aqua Metallic XR7 convertible. It was taken off the road in 1989, sat in the back of a shop until 2000, when the owner died and it was purchased by a salvage yard owner. It sat there for 2 years before I rescued it in 2002 for $350, complete with title dating back to 1984. After a 7 year off and on restoration, it will make it's show debut at Silver Springs in January.

Now it's time to get the red GT going, then the Maverick Sprint, then the gold GT. They are all still in the project stage.

Wheez, and I am trying to retire this next year?

this is just a couple months after i bought it. the only mod is the tear in the passenger vinyl because my "friend" was helping me get motivated to repair a much smaller tear :16suspect
