    Hey now!

This is my first official post and I actually got a 1973 Maverick for free just grab and go type of deal but anyways. It has a 1972 2.8L l6 and C4 transmission. Looking to swap to a 302 in near future. Just like to get a heads up on what transmission would be best suited for a 302? I was thinking FMX,AOD, or a V8 C4. Thanks!

V8 C4 would be easiest since that's what they would have had. I would take the FMX off your list, no real benefit over a C4 when coupled to a 302. The AOD is a common swap but you'll need a custom transmission cross member.

The FMX would weigh half again as much as the C4... Properly setup they are tough but there is almost no aftermarket support for this trans... They were the transmission of choice in automatic 351 Cleveland Stangs...

A trans rarely mentioned is the early/mid '80s C5, it's basically a C4 with lockup converter... Wasn't around long, as the AOD kicked it to the curb rather quickly... These use the big bell and 164T flexplate...

    BTW, Welcome!!
