I have a 5.0 motor in my 77 Maverick I changed over to trick flow head and they are taller. Now my valve covers won't go on because of the brake boost. I have 1.7 rockers. Was wondering what's my quickest and easiest option to this situation. Have to have tall valve covers for rocker clearance
Congratulations this is the first I have seen of a post with this problem. you may have to alter a valve cover to get it done, you cant go down or forward with the motor. It will be interesting to see what other replies you get.
Your clearance issue is not due to the Trick Flow heads which are the same dimension as your stock heads. It is the tall valve covers required for the roller rockers. I assume you are running a 1.6 or 1.7 ratio roller rocker? I would think there are members on this website that are running some type of 1.6 or 1.7 rocker whether roller or non-roller under stock dimension valve covers. Perhaps they can add some insight.
I've used the 5.0 original aluminum valve covers with 1.7 rockers on Trick Flow heads. I did have to trim the oil fill, baffle plate, boss for rocker clearance.
Isn't a fabbed type cover kind of tapered on the edge? Maybe have to go to something like that. Also are you running a higher lift cam than stock? If not you can probably get by with some thick gaskets and adjusting the baffles.
I used these too, they match the O.E finned aluminum oval air cleaner top on my 3x2's but I got tired of the oil leaks so added a set of valve cover spacers. And converted my P/Brakes to manual and got rid of that mess.
Stock Cobra pedestal 1.7 rockers clear the short Cobra stamped valve covers, not sure if stud mount rockers would though. Stud mount 1.7's cleared my 85 Stang H.O finned valve covers but not the baffles on Canfield heads.
My 1.7 rockers are 3/8" studded. Had to fit hem under a EFI upper intake, plus had very little space to rase intake.
